Still, we would have objected to giving him the new contract, simply because we don't place that much value on running backs. They are largely quite replaceable. See Justin Forsett for example, who we also probably wouldn't re-sign.

2. I have always loved Dennis Pitta, but giving him that contract was insane. A hip injury, like the one he suffered, is no joke. I felt bad for him, but a one year "prove it" contract, or franchise tag, would have been the sensible thing to do. Making him one of the highest paid TEs, was not a rational business decision.

3. I like Flacco well enough. He's respectable. Still, the team is paying Ferrari money, for a QB who is rarely asked to perform like anything but a Honda Accord. You could possibly get similar results from a Kyle Orton or Nick Foles type of QB, for about 20% of what Flacco is paid, and have a ton of money left over to improve the receivers and the o-line.

4. I understand the argument that Flacco's first 3 years in his contract are reasonably affordable, Still, unless a renegotiation happens, you can't dismiss what he could really end up costing the team. He is like a credit card bill, that the team has so far avoided paying. Look what happened with Haloti Ngata, who also had a backloaded contract. Personally, I don't think that a renegotiation is going to be an easy thing to accomplish, in Flacco's case. He has almost all of the leverage, and stands a good chance of getting the bulk of the obscene salaries that are promised to him in future seasons. If that happens, I don't think people will be saying that he is affordable anymore.Sidney Mussburgerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03104367326238874951noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9104858724022491504.post-60779061661440587112015-03-12T06:41:20.911-04:002015-03-12T06:41:20.911-04:00Bad contracts? Without joe they're f***ed and he's made it so his cap hit was no more than 17 mil the first 3 years. Ray rice's deal was still a good deal he just fell off the wagon, got hurt, punched his wife, got raped by the NFL. Ozzie had no idea that was coming he handed out money to a player who was a key part of the franchise, super bowl run. Webb was coming off an elite season in which he looked like a top 10 CB he lived up to that and tore his ACL...sh** happens he had a solid 2013 campaign but had a prettyyy bad 2014. he hasn't lived up to the contract but again sh** happens. Pitta sh** happens he re-broke his hip he probaly shouldn't have gotten that much guarenteed but again sh** happens.

All of those players suffered massive injuries save for flacco who is invaluable to the franchise. You can deem them bad contracts but at the time they were fine not every NFL contract will pan out (Ask every sucky team ever) but it's the ravens philosophy build through the draft, sign cheap players who don't count agaisnt the comp pick formula,re-sign your own talent etc, It's produced 6/7 playoff runs and a lombardi trophy criticsize all you want it works even if bad contracts happen and it fucks up the cap for a year.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
